Pets
The Pets FCT survey investigated the attitudes and behaviours of regional radio listeners when it comes to pet ownership. The survey was conducted between 14 May and 7 June 2018 and drew over 3,460 responses from regional radio listeners nationally.
National key insights:
- 86% of respondents own a pet, and another 9% intend to get one soon. 70% of respondents have more than one pet
- Dogs are the most popular pet, with 80% of listeners owning one, followed by cats (50%) and birds (16%)
- 42% of pet owners got their pet from a shelter, compared to 18% from a pet store
- Aside from food, the top 5 purchases by pet owners for their pets are treats, toys, vet visits, grooming and clothes
- 48% of pet owners make their pet purchases at a local grocery store, and 41% purchase at a local pet store
- 27% of pet owners spend over $2,000 every year on their pets.
